House Around the World 2

House Around the World 2

The Electronic Santa Claus was just on Ohio Stand Up and dropped off another edition of House Around the World. This week we have tracks by Alex Kenji, Dirty Culture, Lissat & Voltaxx, Milk & Sugar, Criminal Vibes, Noveau Yorican, and more.

Make sure you play this on a good system with solid bass or a nice pair of headphones. No laptop speakers. And, no, the default earbuds that came with your iPod aren’t good. I’m super serial!

This week’s opening is another house track by a growing name in the minimal world, Frankfurt-based M.in (Markus Ferdinand). Le Cirque Du Tambours is classic house with many tech elements and funky female vocals. Of similar depth and rhythm is La Tonada by Spanish producer Miguel Lobo.

The first African entry is Noir’s Africanism, a slightly deeper sound, yet still capable of filling dancefloors. The vocals are from Salif Keita’s Madan. If you like the original, check out Martin Solveig’s remix of it as well.

Italian producers Alex Kenji and Australian Bass Kleph aren’t chart toppers on Beatport for no reason. They have what it takes to produce killer tracks, and Melocoton is no exception. Check out the classical guitar melody. Another track by Kenji in this episode is Gimme Five. The Spark Edit is a mashup of the original with To the Club by Spancox, which is also on the soundtrack of Hey DJ.

Balkan tunes tend to pair up excellently with tech house. A great example of that is Bal.Kan by Romanian producer Dirty Culture. Unbelievable BASS. The vocal part is a Bulgarian folk song.

The other African entry this week is Afrika by Da Gama, who like Vasco da Gama goes all around Africa, but this time on a musical journey. The vocals are combined with a swing back-melody, and that’s a perfect match.

Cologne-based duo Lissat & Voltaxx deliver some of the best remixes out there. They have brilliantly reworked Tom Novy’s classic Now or Never from 2000. Number nine on Beatport’s top downloads today.

Another great duo is the Italian Criminal Vibes, so I have two of their tracks for you. La Voca has all that Latin spice and powerfull low-end, and San Salvador is an absolute banger with fat beats, a sexy sax melody, and altogether a great remix of Azoto’s disco original.

If you remember Sander Kleinenberg’s hit This is not Miami, Mobin Master’s Get Lucky takes that general idea further with a more progressive sound. Get lucky Miami, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Berlin, Monaco, Amsterdam, Ibiza, Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, Barcelona, Paris, Vienna, Milan, Porto, San Diego, Havana, Quebec, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal.

Track of the week is Noveau Yorican’s Chiuso. Noveau Yorican is (another duo!) collaboration between Gina Turner and Laidback Luke for Latin-infused New York house. Quote straight from the label, Defected records:

“Chiuso embeds its simple, yet devastatingly effective hook deep into your consciousness while it’s techy, driving beats and relentless groove urge you to the dancefloor with irresistible force. Destined for legendary club status, this should only be avoided if you have a severe allergy to true house music anthems.”

Couldn’t say it better.

And German producers Milk & Sugar have done it again (after Let the Love) with their remix of Vaya Con Dios’s Nah neh nah. Number two on Beatport right now. Here’s an example of how only some things in electronic music really get noticed: this has been out but didn’t get nearly as much attention.

Now enjoy Gimme Five and have a merry Christmas!
